Happy birthday to me! I'm 17 now, but still haven't become the best animator in the world. Ahh well, there's still next year.
Anyway, I made this game just in time for my birthday and specifically for it too. I've been busy these past few months so I could only squeeze in a day to work on this (which explains why it's so short). Nevertheless, I think the animation and graphics are OK.
But what I love about this is the AI I managed to program. It's almost as if a real programmer coded it! With this, I reckon I can finally call myself a programmer (rather than an animator who knows actionscript). I don't really want to go through and explain how the AI works because it's really complicated and jumbled up everywhere.
Also, one day I might provide the source file (.fla) of this so anyone interested can look through and see how I made it. The problem with that is that noobs can just steal the code, change the graphics, and call it their own (which I don't want, since I worked real hard on the programming). Maybe when I get a job working as an animator/programmer/composer I'll care less and give my .fla's away. Note: This game is HARD and requires pretty fast reactions or at least some practice to get used to! There's also a couple of bugs I haven't bothered to fix and test, because I'm just too busy.
Here's mega yan, finally finished after a few months of very little productivity. This is actually my first complete flash game that is fully functional and bug free. I guess you could say I'm proud.
The gameplay is originally based on a small flash minigame I made for IPT only starring davidyan, richard and jani. At the start I wanted to do a full on megaman parody hence the name, but quickly got bored of making similarities to it so I went and did my own thing. All the backgrounds are based on real places and there are some inside jokes, but the game isn't entirely inside joke driven, so it's mildly playable by outsiders. The ending was inspired by the easy way out to end a movie, which I first saw in the movie legally blonde.
I'm glad that I didn't aim too high, otherwise this would never have been finished. However, I did have to drop a few things I wanted to do in this game. Firstly, I wanted a secret unlockable character Sameer, but my motivatioin got lost quickly. I also intended to have 9 backgrounds, but I only got around to doing 5 of them, so I had to double up on 4. I even wanted to make it an .exe and put it to disc, print a cover and use lightscribe to imprint a cover on the disc. Only problem was that time was against me, people might bring it to school and play it on the comps (where I would get in trouble because of the mildly inappropriate language), and honestly no one really cares about owning a hard copy.
Overall, I don't think it's too bad, since I had tonnes of fun making it.To download an exe version of the game, right click and save this link.

Masters of Handball #4 is finally updated. You can now charge up your slog with "S" and release "S" to slog the ball. It's not that much faster and the difference may not even be noticable unless you look carefully. I also added a small counter to see how many points you've won as kings (but not the AI; just too lazy). I know it seems like a small update, but every bit counts, and I actually had some trouble figuring out what was wrong with my code. OK, enjoy it.
On the left is a little avatar I made to celebrate me finally getting around to reopening this project.Just right click and save as to download it.This is kind of like a work in progress preview thing whatever you call it. Basically I just post the prototypes and updates of the game so you can see how the final product came to be. Masters of Handball #3 (Better AI) - as well as making the AI stop and start rather than constantly follow the ball (making it look & feel more realistic), I added another sprite, so now you can really feel how awesome it's gonna be. Changed the bgm temporarily so the file size is smaller. I'm not sure exactly how massive the file size will be when the full epic bgm is up. Whatever.
Masters of Handball #2 (Winner validation) - I finally figured out how to program a system where it can figure out/ validate who won the point. Also, I got around to making some sample sprites to see how the intended style will look. I'm hoping once I polish the sprites up they'll look really neat and demonstrate the versatility of what I'm capable of. I still want to add a slogging function where you can charge it up. It'll be a challenge to program that though.Masters of Handball #1 (The prototype) - This was just seeing whether my programming could manage to create a working engine of what I want. If you think about it, all it is, is pong except a tiny bit more complicated. Still lacking in a few areas, but I have most features like the half volleys programmed.
